Sam and Mary Gist originally established the family business of Gist RV as Trailer City Sales and Service in Ypsilanti, Michigan during the spring of 1972. In addition to the sale and service of motor homes, travel trailers, slide-on campers, and pop-up tent campers, a full line of travel and camping genre was provided through their onsite retail store.

As part of the company's evolution, Trailer City expanded operations to include the manufacture of a patented trailer hitch, pick-up truck caps, and custom fabrication of trailers for all applications: camping, scientific environmental research, and utility.

In the Spring of 1982, Mary, having survived a bout with breast cancer, Sam made the decision to relocate residence and business to Inverness, Florida to accommodate her final wishes. On September 11, 1986, Mary passed away from complications to her cancer therapy.

Over the decades that followed, Gist RV expanded it's operations to as many as four locations throughout the tri-county area. Today, it enjoys an impeccable business reputation for quality products and service.

On November 18, 2010, Sam Gist, original founder, formally transferred the family business operations to his sons, Jerry and Don Gist. Sam, although remaining Chairman of the Board and a business consultant, is enjoying his new found freedoms of golfing, fishing, and family.
